August 7/8, 7.00-9.00PM IC Classroom, Green Lib |

| The WWW or the "Web" continues to revolutionize the way we communicate. The traditional role of librarians as experts of the printed document has extended to the Web. In this workshop we will look at tools that add value to the work of librarians. We will look at techniques for "repurposing" documents for the Web and the common tools to use. We will conclude the workshop with an overview of virtual databases, chat and forum software, as well as, video conferencing applications that are in use at Stanford and from freely available software. A simple decision matrix on what technology is appropriate for a intended project will wrap up the workshop. Partipants who sign up for this workshop will be sent a needs survey prior to the conference. Depending on participant need, the second day can be used for completing projects. |
