Anne Marie Gold, the Executive Director of the Stanford-California State Library Institute on 21st Century Librarianship, has had an extensive professional background in the administration of libraries for the past two decades. She served as the County Librarian for both Solano and Contra Costa County in California, as well as having prior experience with the New York Public and Oakland Public Libraries. During her tenure as a library director, she was responsible for multi-branch systems and successfully planned and built new library facilities, initiated long range planning projects, and restructured fiscal and governance operations.

Gold holds a Batchelor of Arts degree in English from St. Lawrence University in New York and a Masters of Library Service degree from Columbia University. She has been active in professional associations, including serving as President of the California Library Association, the California County Librarians Association and the California Institute for Libraries. She also served as the President of the Metropolitan Libraries Section of the Public Library Association and was recognized as the California Library Association Member of the Year in 1994. She also has been active in serving her community, including a term on the Lafayette School District Board of Trustees and as board member for the Lafayette Community Foundation.
