Deborah Angel I'm Deborah Angel from Palo Alto City Library, just down the road from
Stanford. I'm delighted to be attending the Institute. Your stories have
piqued my curiousity and interest; lots of questions about how you folks
have "done good," as my mechanic says, come to mind. But first things first. Anyone attending ALA in San Francisco? Anne Marie -- is there a Stanford-Cal State Library meeting point at ALA? A message board? Now, the plot so far: I've only been a local gal for the past 13 years. I'm a resident alien, from the U.K., where I did my library training when computers filled a room and disks were the size of 33rmp records. I've worked in county systems delivering books to rural schools, and in the inner-city London Borough of Lambeth. Before coming here (no, I wasn't a G.I. bride, I married a techie), I was an Information Officer for the National Council for Voluntary Organisations. Currently I'm a Senior Librarian for Palo Alto City Library and my principal assignment is as Operation Homebound librarian. I'm motivated by the idea of inclusiveness, so making sure people have access to the information and entertainment libraries provided is important to me. One of my sponsors is the director of the Peninsula Center for the Blind where I've done Internet seminars with a colleague who is blind. I guess being Welsh makes you want to fight for the underdog! A l'attaque!
