Patricia Lyons Basu  Hello to everyone! I just returned from vacation (Shakespeare festival in
Ashland, OR and sight-seeing around San Francisco) today, so I probably
really am the last one to check in with this list. On Saturday, I attended
a performance of St. Matthew's Passion at a Methodist Church in Palo Alto,
so I did get a quick glimpse of the town and the campus where we will spend
our week together.I moved to Camarillo, CA, from Ohio a year ago to accept a position as director of libraries at St. John's Seminary. I'd been looking for a position in California ever since I was in grad school at Princeton, but it took 30 years to get me here. In my former life, I was a college professor for 9 years (history of religion), then went to Simmons and got an MLS in 1988. I was librarian at a seminary in MA, library director at Sacred Heart Seminary in Detroit, lib. director at Hiram College in Ohio, then found this position and hope it will be my last. In 2 of my former positions, I was responsible for helping to design new libraries and move collections. Since I've lived in MA, OH, NJ, PA, NC, VA and MI, I suppose those search committees just assumed I knew how to get things from one place to anotherb . . . I have a 19 year old daughter and a cat we brought with us from Ohio. We also had a potbelly pig, but we had to leave her behind since she wouldn't fit into our new apartment. If anybody is driving to Palo Alto from this part of the state and would like company, please contact me. Otherwise, I'll be taking a train.
