Sherry Berlin

Sherry Berlin My name is Sherry Berlin and am excited to be accepted and attending the Institute in August. I am the Librarian at the San Diego Jewish Academy, a K-12 Jewish Day School in the San Diego area. I am also originally a southerner from New Orleans. I came into my job six years ago when the librarian left suddenly and I was the assistant with her. My background was Special Education in resource programs, so being the librarian in this school was much the same -- finding resources for teachers and students. I found I really liked being the librarian and learned as much as I could on my own about it.

This year my school moved into a brand new 40-acre campus in the Carmel Valley area of San Diego. I have added an Upper School (grades 6-12) library this year. So this has kept me busy. I am used to working with and providing for Grades K-5. I feel very fortunate to be in my position and have learned a great deal about opening a new school library. When I am not at school, my husband, my daughter (age 17), and son (age 14) keep me busy.

I look forward to meeting librarians from all over California and the country to learn and share.
