Lois J. Blythe Greetings from Southeast Iowa!I am a midwesterner originally from Minnesota. I received my Bachelor's Degree from St. Cloud State University in General Studies with minors in Criminal Justice Studies and Media. I received my MLS from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1981 and a Master's Degree in Resource Training and Development from St. Cloud State University in 1988. I have been blessed to work in academic libraries as a graduate student and in a law library and community college library. Since 1988, I have been at the Burlington Public Library in Burlington, IA. Burlington has a population of 27,000 and is located on the Mississippi River. It basically borders Illinois and Missouri. I have the position of Head of Adult Services which includes everything that isn't done in the Cataloging Department or the Children's Department. I have the pleasure of planning programs for young adults and adults, working with community organizations and individuals to improve library services, and working with a dedicated staff that cares about providing great service to our community. Oh, I almost forgot, 10 years ago we went online with the Dynix circulation system, so now I am also one of the system administrators, computer troubleshooter, etc. . . . It has been an interesting adventure. My husband, Ike, and I have four children. Kirstin is a sophomore at Western Illinois University, A.J. just graduated from high school, Karin is a sophomore in high school, and Adam is in 3rd grade. We enjoy playing games and camping. We own property on a lake in Missouri which we try to visit as often as we can. We purchased it about six years ago and have added improvements such as water, sewer, and electricity. Last year we bought a used 36-ft travel trailer which has now become our home away from home. It is a wonderful luxury to have a place with no phone and no T.V. It gives a chance to step back and enjoy nature. In my spare time, I like to read or watch mysteries. I also enjoy playing board and card games, needlework, and napping. I look forward to participating in the Institute and meeting folks from other types and sizes of libraries.
