Joan Bowlby

Joan Bowlby I'm Joan Bowlby -- a San Francisco Bay Area native, born in Oakland, educated at Berkeley and currently the Acting Senior for Reference Services at San Jose's Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Main Library. I have briefly sojourned to the East Coast, but have always returned to the beautiful San Francisco Bay Area. My library career has included the Library of Congress, the University of California's Institute of Governmental Studies Library and my current experience at San Jose Public. In between my time at IGS and SJPL, I took several years off to raise 2 wonderful children and to help manage my husband's business.

SJPL and San Jose State University Library are engaged in the challenging process of planning our "Joint Library." We are striving to provide seamless service to university and public library customers in a new shared eight story library structure. The challenges are myriad and complex. My chief focus of concern is the merger of the public and university reference and periodical collections and staff. The Joint Library will be my professional obsession until our official opening in 2003.

I look forward to meeting everybody and enjoying a week of studying, sharing diverse experiences and gazing into the future of modern libraries.
