Therese Cason My name is Therese Cason, and I'm a reference librarian in the Government
Information Center at the San Francisco Public Main Library.Like many of you, I was encouraged by last years' enthusiastic attendees to apply for the Institute. I'm looking forward to the intellectual stimulation, but the phrase that sticks in my mind is "lunch will be served al fresco." I started working in libraries in 1986, after finding that working as an accountant was as boring as studying to be an accountant. I began my MLS part-time at Simmons College in Boston and my first library job was in Widener Library at Harvard. My husband and I relocated to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1988 and I worked a variety of paraprofessional library jobs, completing my degreee at San Jose State in 1990. My professional career began at the U.S. District Court Library in San Francisco. I had no intention of working in a law library -- but it was the first job I was offered in that tight job market of 1991. The four years I was there have served me very well in my current position and sparked my interest in politics and legal issues. I was born and raised in Illinois and have lived in the Seattle, Boston and Chicago areas before settling here in the Bay Area. My interests include gardening, cooking, reading (of course!) and travel. Looking forward to meeting you all in August! Therese
