Ed Erjavek

Ed Erjavek Hello! I’m Ed Erjavek and I’ve worked as a professional librarian at various libraries in the Inland Empire of Southern California since receiving my MLS from San Jose State’s program at Cal State Fullerton in 1993.

I worked full-time at the Riverside City/County Public Library’s Central Library primarily serving as government documents librarian from 1994 to 1997 when the dissolution of the city and county system was announced. I then moved in March of 1997 to the San Bernardino Public Library’s Feldheym Central Library. While serving at Feldheym, I have worked in conjunction with the Technology Manager, Ginny Evans-Perry, who is also attending this year’s Stanford institute, to transform library services at SBPL to help bridge the "digital divide" by bringing state-of-the-art technology to a community in which many members haven’t had access to it. Technology projects that we’ve completed with the assistance of our computer technicians include implementation of SBPL’s first Web-based catalog, receiving some 40 public access computers and software from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, implementing several web-based databases and other projects that I describe in more detail in an article titled "No Funding to Vault the Digital Divide? Plan, Man, Plan" in Today’s Librarian (January, 2001 p. 38).

I also work a couple Saturdays a month during the academic year at Cal State San Bernardino as a reference librarian enjoying the challenges of serving in the academic environment. Before working full-time in Riverside, I worked as a temporary, part-time librarian at UC Riverside’s Rivera Library as well. In my "before library school work life," I worked three years as an editor for a group of weekly newspapers in the Inland Empire. I also contributed articles covering high school sports for the San Bernardino County Sun daily newspaper for four years.

When I’m not at work or not working on my computer at home, I enjoy sports, working out, church and the mountains.
