Mary George I am so looking forward to meeting all of you and wandering around Stanford. I have really been missing college lately and can't wait to strap on a backpack. I want to be in a class, I want to lay on the grass in the quad, I want to meet new people. You all sound so interesting and a bit intimidating. Very impressive credentials. Where are you when our library system is looking for librarians to hire!My name is Mary. I have been a librarian for 10 years. Got my library degree from Berkeley. I am an alumni of California State University, Chico (Political Science & History). I thought I wanted to work for a politician or participate in a political "think tank," but in my second year at Chico I was broke and went to work in the library. I met some very interesting librarians. They had their own offices with art on the walls, were highly respected by the students and faculty, loved to eat, party and were lots of fun. I wanted to be just like them. I have worked for the Auburn-Placer County Library system for nine years. I am the Children's Services Coordinator and manage the Rocklin Library. Placer County is the fastest growing county in California right now. There is so much development and growth happening here. The landscape changes on a daily/hourly basis. I grew up in Auburn and really miss the days when nobody wanted to live here. I used to ride my horse to the library when I was a little girl! I recently got married. Small civil ceremony on the steps of the beautiful Auburn Courthouse. Lovely day. I like hiking and swimming in the American River, listening to Neil Young, reading young adult fictions, and relaxing. Looking forward to meeting all of you. I imagine that it will be kind-of like a "think tank" for librarianship. Maybe I'll use that undergraduate degree after all. Wouldn't it be cool to make some lasting friendships? Mary
