Stephen Kight I know this is late (and perhaps unnecessary now), but for the record, here's a little about me:I may be the only Institute participant who was fired from his first library job. I attended Mercer University in Macon, Georgia, where I majored in theatre and worked (very conscientiously) at the library for four years. I also worked as a waiter during college, since the $3.35 per hour I got at the circulation desk couldn't keep me in the lifestyle of ramen noodles to which I had become accustomed. Two weeks before graduation I went on a catering job instead of working my shift at the library. I got a replacement but he didn't show up and I was fired the next day. (My boss was clearly a Marty Manley disciple.) I was so embarrassed to have been fired that I don't think my family knows about it to this day. Library life picked up after that. I worked as a circulation assistant for the Houston County Public Library and a cataloging assistant at the Mercer University School of Medicine. After a move to New York (following a move to Colorado), I worked at the American Museum of Natural History library, first as a circulation assistant and then as secretary to the director. I ended up in Georgia again and worked as an information specialist for Gwinnett County Public Library for a couple of years and then headed off to library school at the University of South Carolina. I worked as a graduate assistant in the science library while I was there. For the past three years I've worked for the County of Los Angeles Public Library, starting off as a children's librarian. After a year and a half I became a reference librarian, and last November I was promoted to Community Library Manager of the Florence Library. My partner and I live in a condo in Long Beach, and we're about to take our relationship to the next level and adopt a cat. Please note that my email address has changed -- it's now skight@charter.net Stephen Kight
